DUG—Dance Without Frontiers
DUG: Participation—a prerequisite for success
Children and young people are in the best position to know what is relevant for them, and are much more familiar with the trends that exist within their age group than what adults are.
Background for DUG — The model
The dance workshop model, now known as Dans Uten Grenser (Dance Without Frontiers — DUG) was developed using methods such as: Youth-to-youth tutoring, working with multicultural groups, spreading positive attitudes and values, and making the youth aware of their choices etc.
A preventive initiative
Put in a public health perspective, the investment in dance workshops is extremely important. Dance is physically demanding. Dance is a preventative measure against substance abuse, gives a sense of achievement and identity, and promotes social networks and participation.
Young people as tutors
Youth-to-youth tutoring is a methodology for creating change in knowledge, attitudes, skills and, ideally, a change in the behaviour of individuals and groups.
